Things to Do at The Newton

Within half an hour

  • Climb Ruberslaw! 
    The highest peak in the Borders near our farm – with fantastic views.  Take around 1 hour to the summit.

  • Visit Fatlips Castle, just across the River Teviot, you can even get the key locally and climb to the top of the castle and enjoy the view

  • Climb The Dunion, the hill opposite the house which is on our farm

  • Climb all of the above in one day, we call it The Teviot Valley 3 Peaks!

  • Cashmere heaven

  • Visit Born in the Borders
    Visit Hawick and see cashmere being produced – Have a coffee at the quirky Damascus Drum.

  • Romance with Mary Queen of Scots
    Starting at her house in Jedburgh – but also take in the stunning  Abbey and the haunted Castle Jail.

  • Visit Floors
    Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle in Kelso and sample the delicious goodies in the Terrace Café at Floors Castle, Kelso

  • Explore Woodside Walled Garden
    The beautiful  but completely quiet  gardens at Monteviot House.

Within 1 hour

  • Cross the tidal causeway to the romantic Holy Island (check the tides first!)

  • Drive across the beautiful moors to Traquair House – our favourite and the bustling town of Peebles

  • Watch the fish leaping up the ladder at Philliphaugh, near Selkirk and take in a factory tour of the world famous Lochcaron knitwear company

  • Explore Edinburgh – just an hour to the Park & Ride – free parking and frequent buses right to the centre

  • Go Harry Potter mad – visit the real Hogworts Castle(where the film was made), the fantastic Gardens and the restaurant at the enormous Tree House at Alnwick
